What is 1-on-1+ mobile fitness training?

A Strive to Thrive fitness program is designed just for you, with your specific goals and limitations in mind. I come right to your home, place of business or favourite park, at whatever time works best for you. Getting fit YOUR way means you have more fun AND you’re more likely to reach your goals.

What does the “+” mean?

Your partner, friend, baby or dog can join in the fun. Buddy training sessions are a money saver because you can add your “+1” for half price, and they also get their own custom workout. This is a great option for friends and couples who enjoy working out together and thriving on the extra support and accountability. It also helps you set a positive example for your kids and bond with them and your pets.

How much does Strive to Thrive mobile fitness training cost?

For 1-hour 1-on-1 training sessions, prices start at $60 (plus GST).

Add a buddy starting at $90/session for both of you (plus GST).

Half-hour sessions are also available, at a reduced rate, for clients slowed down by aging or illness.

Is mobile 1-on1+ fitness training right for me?

1-on-1+ is perfect for you if you:

  • Feel shy or anxious at the gym or are too busy to get there
  • Don’t enjoy group classes but can’t get motivated to exercise on your own
  • Feel embarrassed that you’ve never exercised
  • Want to find your healing groove following a cancer diagnosis (current or recovering)
  • Have specific weight-loss, toning or performance goals
  • Want help staying strong and healthy as you age
  • Are housebound with illness, autoimmune sensitivities, small children, or aging parents
  • Are a busy parent craving “me time” that doesn’t involve cheesecake or Netflix
  • Prefer outdoor exercise but don’t know what to do

Where do sessions take place?

Wherever you’re most comfortable: at your home, your workplace, a park or hiking trail, or your local gym. We can also mix it up.

How much space do I need for my workout?

All you absolutely need is about 6 by 6 feet. Let me know how much space you have and I’ll make sure the program I create will work for you.

What happens during a personal training session?

Each session includes a warm-up, the main workout (such as resistance training), a cool-down and stretching.  I walk you through the customized training program I’ve created for you, explaining and demonstrating the exercises. If we are in a gym I’ll show you how to set up and use the equipment and explain the purpose of each exercise. We start slowly and go at your pace, making sure you can perform the exercises correctly. Questions are encouraged! The length of each portion of a program, such as a warm-up, varies depending on your needs.  Some people want to warm up on their own prior to the session to save time and money. We change the workout over time as your abilities, needs and desires change.

I feel so clueless at the gym, but I’d really like to go. Can you help?

Absolutely. I’ll come to the gym with you and show you how to master gym etiquette and adjust the equipment so you’ll have the confidence to feel like you fit right in.

How can 1-on-1+ save me money?

You don’t have to pay for childcare, travel, parking or gym membership. Your partner or friend can join in for half price. And since time is money, think what you save because you don’t have to spend precious time travelling to the gym, looking for a parking spot, signing in, finding a locker, changing, fighting for space in the weight room or waiting for cardio equipment — and then doing everything in reverse to get home!

What equipment do we use? Do I need to have my own?

I bring the equipment needed for the program I create you. However, if you already have equipment you like I can incorporate it into the program. And if you want to exercise more often than our sessions, I can help you choose simple equipment for using on your own. If you don’t like using equipment, I’ll find creative alternatives to be sure you get the workout you love.

What if we plan to exercise outside and the weather is poor?

I’ll always be prepared to train you outside, rain or shine! But I’m flexible, so if you decide you’d rather exercise indoors, that’s great too. During our planning session, let me know where you’d like to exercise if the weather is poor. That way, I can be prepared to adjust your program and bring the right equipment.

How do we get started working together?

Here are two simple steps you’ll take to start training with me:

1. GET MEDICAL CLEARANCE — You complete a quick-and-easy online questionnaire to clear you for exercise (legally required). If you answer “yes” to any of the questions, you’ll need to get an OK from your doctor before we begin.

2. MEET AND PLAN — We meet up to discuss your strengths, weaknesses and body composition. I’ll ask you for all the information I need to plan a fitness program that meets your goals. We’ll test your starting abilities as a baseline so you’ll be able to celebrate your progress as you get stronger and fitter. Taking measurements and pre-training photos helps with this, but only if you’re comfortable (and you can keep photos on your own phone if you prefer).
